Don’t Let A 4-year-old Develop A Movie
Don’t Let A 4-year-old Develop A Movie

... Bob Bacon, the head of Paramount Animation (whose next high-profile project, you might remember, is Monster Trucks), leaves the studio…and Paramount eliminates his position. As far as signs go, this isn’t a good one. In November 2015, Paramount moved the film one final time , to Friday, January 13, 2017. This. Is. Not. A. Good. Sign. On June 1, 2016, Paramount debuted the first trailer—more than a year after the film was originally set to hit theaters. And it was a doozy, featuring a teen mechanic (Lucas Till) taking selfies with an oil-guzzling “land squid”—a horrifying cross between E. T. and Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon—who powers his clunky pickup truck. No wonder the studio wanted to delay it for years. Till might be enjoying success on CBS’ remake of Mac Gyver right now, but this bomb looked like it was going the way of Mac Gruber. (Except Mac Gruber is amazing. —Ed.). Finally, in September, Paramount announced a $115 million write-down that trade publications almost immediately linked to Monster Trucks, essentially disavowing the film even though it would still try to recoup what few dollars it ...

Monster Trucks’ Review
Monster Trucks’ Review

... involving lots of squealing tires and catapulting trucks whose resale value drops to next to nothing when they spectacularly crash-land. However, it’s not all mindless fun and vroom-vroom games, as there is a way-obvious environmental message underlying the vroom vroom. The monsters — rubbery ugly-as-sin multitentacled critters — are peaceable inhabitants of a vast underground lake that — poor them — lies atop an even more vast pool of oil. A rapacious drilling outfit run by an odious executive (played with maximum smarm by Rob Lowe) aims to drill right down through the creatures’ home to get his mitts on the black gold, eradicating them in the process. Feel free to boo here, especially since the lower-than-low Lowe character is aided and abetted in his badness by a black-clad private-security thug (Holt Mc Callany) who addresses the monster-befriending boy thusly: “I’ll hurt you, kid.” Mr. Sadist, at your service. As I said: ...

But it's about the fans. The fans are the ones that love the crashes.”. And these guys know what the fans want because they are fans. “We have the yearbooks just like all the kids, the fans," said Travis. "And we go get 'em signed.”. They still have a wall of toys and souvenirs in mom's home.  Every year for her birthday, they'd go to monster jam at the Tacoma Dome. “One year we're looking over the wall as they're packing everything up and the boys said ‘mom, how do you think you get into this?’” said mom Kathryn Kleinwachter. “I said ‘I don't know, but pull open the gate and I'll squeeze through and I'm going to ask somebody.’”. They met a driver and started volunteering on his crew. Did that for two years on weekends and became drivers themselves in 2011. “I'm not surprised because they took the wheels off their wagon as three year olds to try to put bigger wheels on it and it just grew from there. They were very adventurous little boys,” said Kathryn. ...
