... influence in your music. I think that the 1920 s was an amazing time, especially when it comes to big band. And Cuban band music is also amazing. I do think that the direction of my music is a little bit different, but I will say that the experience in getting to know about Cuban culture and history made me want to explore more and more my connection with my Latin roots, especially with music. Writing songs in Spanish is one of the things I started exploring after working on this film. I look forward to working on more music in Spanish. It sounds ambitious, but I'm looking to release an album in Spanish later on this year. If nothing else, at least releasing a single or two in Spanish. Hopefully, you guys stay tuned to that. We definitely will! You're a halfsie like myself; I'm half African-American, half Puerto Rican. What are some of your favorite Mexican traditions. The family gets together ...

... directed by Ben Affleck. Ben Affleck directs his fourth feature film ("Argo" being his most recent) with this adaptation of the fantastic 2012 Dennis Lehane novel. Spanning decades, "Night" takes us into a lively criminal underworld of early 20 th century bootlegging filled with hardened criminals, femmes fatale, gunfire aplenty, and yes, star-crossed love. The verdict: See it. Early word has been less than complementary, but based on the power of the novel alone, I say give it your full attention. Quick Cuts. "Monster Trucks" (Wide Release) — Lucas Till, Amy Ryan, Barry Pepper, directed by Chris Wedge. Skip it: If you want to get the kids out of the house this weekend, "Monster Trucks" is your only option. But this tale of a young man, his truck and a kindly monster is entirely forgettable. ... backed “Bye Bye Man,” which focuses on the discovery of a shadowy figure responsible for evil acts, while Open Road is distributing “Sleepless,” the story of a morally compromised detective whose family is threatened. The weekend’s other new release, Paramount’s “Monster Trucks,” is shaping up to be a huge bomb. The studio has already taken an $115 million write-down on the family film and is eyeing a debut of between $8 million and $10 million. That’s a disastrous result for a film with a $125 million price tag. “Monster Trucks” focuses on a high school student (Lucas Till) whose truck gets taken over by a CGI monster. The studio will also expand “ Silence ,” a religious epic that Martin Scorsese has labored for two decades to bring to the screen. The story of Jesuit priests in feudal Japan will expand to 750 locations after making $913,000 in limited release. It cost $40 million to make and will do less than $10 million worth of business, a weak result given its budget. Then there’s ...

... that didn’t give a. So that was fun for a while — and then it got gross. It’s no fun when they go, “OK, that’s a wrap,” and I’m stuck weighing 202 pounds. My wife was happy when I shaved my mustache and started to lose some weight. There’s still some of my back fat that just won’t leave. When you do a movie like this, the department heads [of all the technical crafts] are so specific, thorough. I went to meet with the costume designer [Jacqueline West], and I said, “Ben’s so tall and wide. I’m so small. I’m struggling, honestly, with the idea of me being next to him and playing the Enforcer.” And she said, “Look at Frank Nitti, Capone’s right-hand man. Frank Nitti was ...

... time in the ranks serving overseas in the first world war, disgusted by the senseless slaughter and officer-class callousness. Once back in prohibition-era Boston, he becomes a robber and a stickup man, a freebooting outlaw who sleeps by day and lives by night, with no gang allegiances, and has a passionate affair with Emma Gould (Sienna Miller), the mistress of Irish mob boss Albert White (Robert Glenister). But when a bank robbery goes horribly wrong and his affair is no longer a secret, Joe must swallow his pride and accept the patronage of Italian gang capo Maso Pescatore (Remo Girone) who sends him to Florida with his buddy Dion Bartolo (Chris Messina) to manage the rum-running business. There he comes into contact with failed starlet turned preacher Loretta Figgis (Fanning) and falls for beautiful Cuban club proprietor Graciella Suarez (Saldana). But the past catches up with him, as it always must. There is a breezy melodramatic vigour to the movie’s opening, when Joe is young and stupid, but the film’s long endgame in Florida – during which he is supposedly becoming a more rounded and sympathetic guy – is ...

It’s better than planning birthdays for adults.” The latest was clown themed, as a nod to the Fellini movies Italian-born Perego has been showing the kids. While L. A.-based Saldana missed the New York premiere of “Live By Night,” the city is a place close to her heart — she spent a chunk of her childhood growing up in Jackson Heights. “I will be a New Yorker until I die,” she says, describing how the city shaped her: “It’s because of my upbringing in New York City that I’m able to go to any part of the world and embrace everything that I see. It’s one of the most progressive cities.”. One fond memory she recalls is of the building she grew up in. “I remember very early on I would count how many doors were in my building per floor. “That would trickle a chain thinking process of like how ...

WARNER BROS. PICTURES. Ben Affleck, left, and Remo Girone in a scene from 'Live By Night.'. WARNER BROS. PICTURES. Sienna Miller in a scene from 'Live By Night.'. WARNER BROS. PICTURES. The concept of honor among thieves is the cornerstone of Live by Night, a Roaring ‘20 s crime story whose kingpin filmmaker (Ben Affleck as director and leading man) appears to have been corrupted by absolute power. Swanking about in dressy fedoras and mammoth shoulder-padded summer suits that recall the enormous white outfit David Byrne wore in the “Stop Making Sense” concert film, Affleck seems determined to stand out on camera shot after lingering shot, a big star in every sense of the word. He has cast himself as a very heroic antihero. He plays Joe Coughlin, a World War I veteran who entered the military as the patriotic son ...
