Sanford is considering an "adopt a park" program in an effort to clean up public parks and keep them free of litter, vandalism and graffiti. Under the proposal that will be presented to Sanford commissioners Monday, residents or community groups — such as churches, nonprofit organizations or clubs — would be able to "adopt" or take on the task of maintaining either a portion of or an entire city park for a year. "This is a way for the public to be involved in our community and take ownership of their neighborhood parks," said Robert Beall, the city's operations manager. In essence, the program is a volunteer litter-prevention program, city officials said. But it also could help bring down the costs of general maintenance, they said.
