LOS ANGELES — Dax Shepard and Michael Peña knew they had big shoes to fill when they signed up to star as Officers Jon Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncherello, played by Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada in the classically 1970 s TV series CHi Ps. What Peña and Shepard didn’t know was just how hard the shoes — or more specifically, the snug motorcycle boots worn by the California Highway Patrol — would be to take off, even when using a specially made boot puller. “The hardest part of the job was getting those boots off at the end of the day,” says Shepard, 42. “I snapped two boot ...
Intel Merges Its Ai Operations Into A New Unit, Focusing On New Chips And Software
... a new Xeon Phi chip code-named Knights Mill that will focus on machine learning. Additionally, it is applying its wide portfolio of FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays) to artificial intelligence. Intel also offers many software tools for deep learning, like its Deep Learning SDK. Also part of the group will be chips from Movidius and Nervana Systems, companies that Intel acquired last year. Movidius chips are used in mobile devices, drones, and robots, was well as for computer vision. Intel plans to show a high-performance machine learning ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) called Lake Crest with technology from Nervana this year. Intel will create an AI research lab dedicated to exploring "novel architectural and algorithmic approaches" that could be applied to data center technologies and Io T devices. Machine learning today is mostly driven by GPUs, which Intel doesn't make. But between its CPUs, ASICs, and FPGAs, Intel believes it can offer a wide range of chips to meet all machine-learning needs. The ...
With ‘chips,’ Hollywood Again Goes From Small Screen To Big. Does It Ever Work
... few years later. Both took solid material and made movies much better than the original shows. “Police Squad”/”The Naked Gun:” Another case of a show cancelled too soon. From the comedic geniuses that brought us “Airplane” (David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker) the show only lasted six episodes in 1982. Then they got half as many movies out of the concept, which reinvented Leslie Nielson’s career as the bumbling Frank Drebin in the greatest police spoof of all-time. “The Muppet Movie”: I remember being on the cusp of my teenage years and scoffing at the idea of making a movie out of what I thought would be leftover “Sesame Street” puppets. And I probably rode my bike to see it three times. It’s still a wonderful movie, and I dare you to watch the opening scene with Kermit and if you’re not moved, at least try not to sing along. “The Twilight Zone”: Rod Serling’s television show was bizarre and frightening. This 1983 big-screen adaptation went even farther. Directors John Landis, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante and George Miller each took on a different chapter of terror and intrigue. See it, and you’ll never ...

The Film Is 'chips' And 'chips Tv Fans Are Poised To Hate It
... the actors are both very talented and funny, so maybe it all works.". Fans of the original "CHi Ps," still widely seen in reruns and on DVD, are far less forgiving. They've been posting angry messages all over the internet since the first trailers for the R-rated action comedy emerged, calling it garbage and disrespectful to police officers everywhere. In a lengthy "open letter" to Dax Shepard, Sue Walsh of New York accuses the film's writer, director and co-star of mocking the original show with a ridiculous remake filled with nudity, penis jokes and raunchy bathroom humor. (She left out big-breasted women but they're in there, too.). "'CHi Ps' was not just a '70 s cop show. It wasn't Shakespeare, no, but it did and does mean a whole lot to a whole lot of people," said Walsh, who is organizing a 40 th anniversary reunion of the show this fall that most of the original cast is expected to attend. To understand why fans are so upset, ...
Power Rangers’, ‘chips’ & A Deep-space Alien Won’t Take This ‘beauty And The Beast’ Down
... Of the three wide entries — Sony’s Life , Warner Bros.’ CHIPS and Lionsgate’s millennial reboot of Saban’s The Power Rangers , it’s the latter that is forecasted to place second with an opening between $30 M-$40 M on 3,693 screens. Lionsgate’s m.o. was to give this 25-year old beloved franchise of martial-art fighting helmet headed superheros a dusting off, providing a grounded Hunger Games-like vibe with a Transformers-like touch that grown-up fans would savor. The brand itself, created by Haim Saban and Toei Company Ltd., has logged some 831 episodes on TV to date, with toy sales far and above $6 billion (and that figure was from 16 years ago!). At the height of the Power Rangers-mania in the mid-90 s when it was on Fox TV, there was actually a Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers feature film. But the movie was made with the same production quality as its TV ...
Samsung Offers 14nm Network Chips With Rambus, Esilicon
... Plus process and know-how from network applications together with e Silicon's ASIC and 2.5 D design capability and Rambus' 28 G Ser Des solution for the design pattern. Samsung also named its newly-developed 2.5 dimension turnkey solution I-Cube (Interposer-Cube), that connects a logic chip, or processor, with a HBM 2 memory. Read More. The commercial-ready 14-nanometer network process chip is the first to have applied the I-Cube solution, the company said. Luc Seraphin, senior vice president and general manager of Rambus Memory and Interfaces Division, said in a statement, "This is the first of several other offerings we plan to bring to networking and enterprise ASIC markets around the globe.". The South Korean chip giant said I-Cube solution will be essential to network applications for high-speed signaling in networks, and will likely be adopted for other areas such as computing, servers, and artificial intelligence, where high-speed processing power is required. Samsung began applying the second-generation 14-nanometer process early ...
Obnoxious Officers In 'chips
... film to date. The comedy style is very shallow and juvenile, with a lot of sexual references, with a lot of naughty closeups to further amp up the raunch factor visually. Shepard's brand of comedy is very physical and over-the-top, not always funny. Michael Pena is usually seen in serious good-guy roles, like "Crash," "World Trade Center" and "Collateral Beauty". I have never seen him in such a vulgar role like this one before. He looked mighty awkward doing this role, and maybe come across as miscast. However, because of this discomfort, I felt he was actually funny in the role of a guy that had a lusty deviant sex drive lay beneath a calm and professional surface. Their chemistry together was really iffy, but actually gels better towards the end. If you have been reading my previous reviews on films like "Hangover" or "Sausage Party," raunchy comedies are not really my cup of tea. But this one had its occasional laugh out loud moments, mainly due to the naughty guy banter of the two lead actors. The ...
Guess What? Dax Shepard's 'chips' Is Better Than It Looks
... the new “Power Rangers” movie — genuinely likes the show he’s adapting. That doesn’t sound like high praise, but it makes a difference. RELATED: Interview: Kristen Bell's "boob job" in "CHi Ps" revealed — "use 'em while you got 'em". The plot is dumb — so dumb it could have been on an episode of “CHi Ps”: There’s some crooked cops (led by a legit menacing Vincent D’Onofrio) ripping off armored trucks, and they must be stopped. Sometimes “CHi Ps,” weirdly, plays things a little too straight, but in a way that winds up being endearing. As a comedy director, Shepard isn’t always looking for a gag, and when he is he doesn’t always give us what we expect. The jokes, though often blue, tend to be built around character, and the biggest laughs come out of nowhere. (You probably didn’t go to see a “CHi Ps” movie to hear Michael Pena rhapsodize on the joys of pooping, or expect that that would actually be pretty ...
