Xavier Brings The Wood In March, As Wildcats Learned
... that the Musketeers and Shockers are Top 25 programs with a bite. Xavier’s recruiting Class of 2014 is the reason it beat Arizona last week. In retrospect, it was a Top 10 or 15 class. The Musketeers’ top player, Trevon Bluiett was a four-star recruit who was offered scholarships by Arizona, Florida and Louisville, and took a recruiting visit to UCLA. Arizona, however, took Stanley Johnson, so it didn’t need Bluiett. Looking back, Arizona would’ve been better off taking Bluiett than the one-year Johnson, who averaged 13.8 points and had little impact in the 2015 postseason. A three-year player like Bluiett now looks like a better choice. Xavier wing man J. P. Macura, a four-star prospect who gave Arizona a lot of trouble, was offered scholarships by Florida State, Purdue and Butler. And the Xavier big man who sunk Arizona with a last-minute layup, Sean O’Mara, ...

... and support them tremendously.”. Xavier’s Elite Eight garb is flying off the shelves at the Crable Factory Outlet in Springdale. Chris Huster, of Deer Park, was one of the first in line Friday, and she took home 10 of the T-shirts. “I have four children. Three of them graduated from Xavier University,” Huster said. “My husband is one of eight — one girl — seven of them graduated from Xavier University. It is an amazing story isn't it? I am so excited.”. Although she’s a University of Cincinnati graduate, Ann Ranaghan bought several Elite Eight shirts Friday. “ It's always exciting when a local team can get far in the tournament, and so everyone needs to support the no matter what your original loyalties may have been,” Ranaghan said. Xavier graduate student Scott Young is grateful for the recognition the tournament has brought to his school. “It's always exciting to be in the national spotlight and to have something that you directly identify with get the ...
Cut Down The Nets Into Existence
... Friday at the SAP Center. Musketeers head coach Chris Mack had a final command: Cut the net down. “I just think that in order to do something, I think you have to visualize yourself doing it," he said. "We’ve been in this position before going into the second weekend and I wanted to do something different. I was tired of us losing. “I’ve had the unfortunate opportunity of sitting there watching UCLA (in 2008) cut down the nets and I want that to happen to our team.”. Then it clicked with the players. This was preparation for Saturday night at the SAP Center. Not the game itself against what was then a to-be-determined opponent, but in anticipation of the celebration after they won the 2017 NCAA Tournament’s West Region. Different players perceived the act of slicing through the twine differently. For freshman forward Tyrique Jones, the underlying message resonated. “To me, it meant a little different ...

Tough Loss For Xavier Alumni, Fans
... alumnus Dave Rinck said. “You know, we played very good. I'm so proud, so proud,” Xavier senior Lauren Uttam said. The Queen City Exchange filled with a sea of blue Saturday. Two 2013 Xavier alumni co-own the downtown bar on Court Street. Their 41 taps change prices just like the stock exchange, depending on what drinks are hot and which ones are not. “It's really cool, to think that I get to watch Xavier, my alumni, in my own bar, it is a lot of fun to think about. And really to be able to offer a location to Xavier to host young alumni, things like that where they know they have a good spot and a friendly spot to watch the Muskies,” co-owner Adam Stowe said. “We still feel very connected to Xavier. Xavier alumni has been really, really great to us having watch parties here, so we feel as connected as we did as students,” co-owner Nick Broerman said. Frustrated fans feeling the agony of defeat, still believe this Xavier team had an incredible run. “They played great. Xavier played great. (It was a) great season; beyond my expectations,” said fan Rob Feld, whose father played for Xavier in the '50 s. “I'm not going to ...
