What If You Had One Day To Change Everything

The film’s targeted viewership appears to be a younger audience (or just those young at heart). The cast is filled with up-and-coming talents such as Deutch and Sage, as well as You Tube personalities with large – and ever growing – followership like Lawley (also known as superkian 13 ). “Before I Fall” preaches selflessness and generosity while giving the audience a feeling of familiarity, especially for those on the younger side of the spectrum in terms of some of the characters’ struggles with persecution. Before I Fall Review

... the savagery of high-school girls. Perhaps that’s because the film is helmed by mostly women. Director Ry Russo-Young and writer Maria Maggenti bring to life Lauren Oliver’s novel, and Deutch, Sage, Cynthia Wu (as Ally) and Medalion Rahimi (as Elody) skillfully carry the film. Deutch, by the way, is the daughter of veteran director Howard Deutch and actor Lea Thompson (who is no stranger to teen dramas herself and is, as a matter of fact, currently starring in Freeform’s YA series Switched at Birth). Before I Fall also stars Logan Miller (The Walking Dead, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse), Elena Kampouris (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2) and Jennifer Beals as Sam’s mom. The time-loop concept certainly is not new. Arguably the best and most well known movie to execute the repeating day is 1993’s Groundhog Day, but 2014 brought us Edge of Tomorrow, which turned out to be actually pretty great too. ... does in Groundhog Day , she does reach a nihilistic point on one particular iteration of her day that leads her to say whatever's on her mind, especially to her friend Lindsay (Halston Sage), who she calls out for her shallowness and narcissism while apparently not realizing how much she's really castigating herself for those same qualities. The filmmakers are so flagrant in their homage that even the bar conversation that leads Phil on his path to personal change in Ramis's film is basically repeated here between Samantha and Anna (Liv Hewson) inside a bathroom, with Anna saying that Samantha's description of a life in which everything is the same and nothing matters fits her own to a T. From there, Before I Fall plays out as expected, with Samantha realizing the goodness she suppressed to become popular. And yet, she's less empathetic than self-righteous by film's end, coming off as holier than thou in flaunting her moral superiority to her friends.
