U.s. Advances To 2017 World Baseball Classic Second Round
... a win in order to advance while avoiding any tiebreaker scenarios. They did just that. As a result they’ll move on to the second round and be a part of Pool D at Petco Park in San Diego, which gets underway on Tuesday. The U. S.’s first game will be on Wednesday. Other Pool D combatants include the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Venezuela is likely to be the fourth team, but we won’t know that until the conclusion of the late game on Sunday. The top two teams from Pool D will advance to the semifinals in Dodger Stadium. 2. The U. S. once again got strong starting pitching. Against Colombia on Friday, starter Chris Archer gave the Americans four scoreless frames. Marcus Stroman contributed 4 2/3 shutout innings against the powerful Dominican Republic lineup on Saturday, and then on Sunday Danny Duffy blanked Canada for four innings. So that’s a combined 12 2/3 scoreless innings from the U. S. starting pitchers, and over that span they’ve struck out 14 batters without issuing a walk. ...
Adrian Peterson Scheduled To Meet With Seahawks In His First Visit Of Free Agency
... through the first 72 hours of free agency, it’s that the market for veteran running backs is basically nonexistent. Teams have been able to sign players for a full three days now, and out of everyone signed, only one of them - Danny Woodhead - was a true running back. The running back market has been so dry, there have actually been more fullbacks who have signed contracts than running backs. Adrian Peterson is set to make his first visit of the free-agency period. USATSI. The market for Peterson is even worse because he’s not willing to play for just anyone. The veteran running back has made it clear that he’s willing to play only for a team that has a chance to win the Super Bowl next season. On the day before free agency started, Peterson dad, Nelson, let it be known that his son would prefer to play for the Raiders or Seahawks. Even though Peterson is visiting with the Seahawks, he’s no lock to walk away with a contract. La Canfora has ...
Six Seeds The Ncaa Tournament Committee Got Wrong
... ranked eighth in Ken Pom, 11 th in Sagarin are. . are you kidding me. . a 10 seed. A top-10 team gets a double-digit seed. What world is this? A flat one, obviously. Last season, Wichita State ranked top-20 in many accepted, empirical data models. It got an 11 and was sent to the First Four. At the time, many pointed out that the selection committee misstepped and put the Shockers too low. Then Wichita State went on to beat Vanderbilt and Arizona by double digits. Sports Line. Latest odds. History has repeated itself, and will likely do so again in the coming week. Wichita State, to the surprise of no one, is favored by 6.5 points against Dayton, a team seeded three spots higher than the Shockers. So let this egregious call be the decision that changes the NCAA’s seeding and selection protocol forever going forward. (Such changes, hopefully, should be happening come 2018.) Let’s ...
Selection Sunday Upsets Could Result In Late Shake-ups To Field
... could also cause some seed changes, but that is still to be determined. The committee begins bracketing on Sunday morning and will have contingencies in place for any of those situations if they feel a result merits a change. You may recall that last year, Kentucky coach John Calipari was very upset after the Wildcats beat Texas A&M to win the SEC title and saw that his team was still seeded below the Aggies. He accused the committee of not taking that game into account, but in fact, the committee felt his team should be seeded behind Texas A&M even if the Wildcats won. Reasonable people can disagree with that decision, but it wasn’t made out of bracketing expediency. It would not have been difficult to have another bracket in place. It was based on how the committee felt about those teams. I think the Pac-12 will be disappointed in the low number of its ...
Adam Hadwin Wins First Pga Tour Tournament At Valspar Championship
... don’t know what to say right now,” Hadwin told Golf Channel. “I fully expected Patrick to make that putt. I said yesterday I just wanted a chance to win coming up the last.”. He got it, and he took advantage of it. For Cantlay, the loss stings, but this is his first top-three and just his second top-10 finish as a professional. “I played well,” said Cantlay. “I did a lot of good things. Didn’t finish it off very strong. But overall, I played well. My game’s good. I love being in the moment. I love doing it and there’s no place I would rather be.”. Grade (for both): A+. Henrik Stenson (T 7): Stenson had a solid outing, which is representative of his last six months on the PGA Tour and European Tour. Stenson only had one finish outside the top 10 since the 2016 Open Championship (excluding withdrawals) on both tours coming into this week. That remains intact. Stenson could not get any momentum going into Sunday after a slick 64 in ...
Using The Last 10 Years To Predict Upsets
... 11 seeds. So, you can comfortably pick two No.11 seeds. Another rule: You should make one of these a team that wins in the “First Four.” Since the group of games was added in 2011, one team in the play in games advanced to the Round of 32. My picks: Either No. 11 Wake Forest or No. 11 Kansas State over Cincinnati. No. 11 Xavier over No. 6 Maryland. Pick three of the eight 10 or 12 seeds. As for the aforementioned No. 12 seeds. They’re 16-24 in the round of 12 in the last 10 years. I’d combine it with another stat. The 10 seeds are 15-25 in that same time period. So I’d take three out of the eight 10 or 12 seeds to advance. A good way to pick which teams is based on their offensive success. Can the team get hot for a game to pull off an upset? This points to No. 10 Oklahoma State. They’re the best team in America in offensive effienciency per Ken __link__. My picks: No. 10 Oklahoma ...

Agent For Patriots' Star Cornerback Is Trying To Get His Client Out Of New England
... client out of New England. There's a new twist in the situation involving Malcolm Butler. • 2 min read. Thing might have just gotten slightly more awkward between the Patriots and Malcolm Butler. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has reported that Butler’s agent, Derek Simpson, is now contacting other teams and asking them to sign his client. The catch here is that Butler is a restricted free agent who was given a first-round tender, which means that if he’s signed by another team, that team would have to give a first-round pick to the Patriots. La Canfora has reported that the Patriots would actually be OK if Butler were to sign with someone else because that would give New England a first-round pick in this year’s draft. Currently, the Patriots don’t have a first-round pick because they traded it away in the deal for Saints ...
Breaking Down Gonzaga, No. 1 Seed In West
... ( Top reserve: F Zach Collins ). Leading scorer: Williams-Goss (16.9) | Leading rebounder: Williams (6.5). National championships: N/A | Last Final Four: N/A. Why Gonzaga might win it all: This is the No. 1 team in the country, according to Ken __link__. That’s been the case for almost two months now. Not only that, but Gonzaga’s efficiency returns are among the top five in the past 15 years of college basketball. Gonzaga has a top-10 offense and the No. 2-rated defense in terms of points-per-possession. This team is long, experienced, and has beaten the likes of Arizona, Iowa State, Florida — and a three-game sweep of Saint Mary’s. This is, without debate, the best Gonzaga team in history. Why Gonzaga might not win it all: When faced with the chance to win its final game of the regular season and complete a 30-0 mark, the Bulldogs took a slip. This program has, infamously, never made a Final Four. Those elements, perhaps, will come into play. Gonzaga looked tight in its lone loss, to BYU. It hasn’t faced many scenarios this season wherein games have ...
World Baseball Classic Scores, Results
... the ninth rolled around, both squads were tied at eight. Salvador Perez put Venezuela back up with a two-run home-run. But a blown save by Francisco Rodriguez was capped by an RBI single on Gavin Cecchini’s part. Unfortunately, Cecchini’s single saw Drew Butera thrown out at home plate - noteworthy since Butera collided with Perez, his Kansas City Royals teammate, who then left the game with a knee injury. ( You can read more about Perez here.) Rodriguez, by the way, also left the game injured. Extra innings belonged to Venezuela, as they went ahead again on a Martin Prado double. Jose Castillo, a 21-year-old southpaw whose claim to fame is his inclusion in the Wil Myers trade, then shut the door with a 1-2-3 inning. The result left both teams with a 1-1 record. Dominican Republic 7, United States 5. Another wild affair - and one that you can read more about here. Team USA received good pitching from Marcus Stroman and seemed well-positioned with Andrew Miller on the mound and a two-run lead on the board in the eighth. Alas, the Dominican Republic wasn’t having any of it, with both Nelson Cruz and Starling Marte homering off ...
Our Experts Fill Out March Madness Brackets
... Wichita State Shockers into the second weekend because the Shockers were jobbed in their seeding and will play as angry as they ever have. Rhode Island Rams in the Elite Eight? Hey, why not have a little bit of fun? You seeing what I’m doing with Oklahoma State Cowboys and SMU Mustangs too? Probably regrettable, but oh well. Hey, as long as the tournament’s fun, that’s all that matters. Chip Patterson. ( Click here to enlarge the bracket ). After toppling North Carolina Tar Heels , I’m picking Kansas to finish off its championship run by upending a Duke Blue Devils team that’s playing its best basketball of the season right now. The Jayhawks’ early bounce from the Big 12 tournament leaves even more time for this group, currently in the middle of concerning investigations from a few off-court ...
