Sec & Players From Kentucky Are Up; Acc Down
... is tied with the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 for the most remaining teams with three. After years of me bashing SEC basketball(except Kentucky) is the league finally on the upswing. — Bill King (@Billis King) March 20, 2017. Down: Atlantic Coast Conference basketball. After a season of hosannas to the strength of the ACC, the league laid a dinosaur egg when it mattered most. Of the nine ACC teams that began the NCAAs, only North Carolina is still alive. The second round was an ACC massacre with Virginia, Florida State, Notre Dame, Louisville and Duke going down. At 7-8, the ACC is the only one of the six major hoops conferences with a losing record so far in the NCAA tourney. So, was the ACC over-rated all season. Or was the league as good as advertised but merely the victim of one bad weekend. Up: Kentucky high school hoops products. Four players from Kentucky have performed well for teams that have made the round of 16. UK senior Dominique Hawkins (Madison Central) has scored seven points in both of Kentucky’s NCAA tourney wins. ...
After Tko Of Wichita State, Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Has Evolved From Fighter To Boxer
... a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer. For the bout, he recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. The only thing “shut down” was Wichita State’s season. The trash talking aside, Sunday’s fight was a beauty, worthy of any marquee. Kentucky’s largest lead was seven points, Wichita State’s was four. The score was tied five times with 11 lead changes. But in the end, the Kentucky pugilists in white trunks pulled themselves off the stool for one final flurry of knockout punches. Malik Monk , struggling with his shot, drilled a 3-pointer with 2:10 remaining to give Kentucky some breathing room at 61-56. The boxer explains how he landed the punch. “I saw that his hand was down,” Monk said. “I knew I could get a clean look and that’s what I did. If I get a clean look, I think I have a pretty good chance of making it.”. A short time later, Monk blocked a 3-point attempt that, if successful, ...
Isaac Humphries Unsure Of What's Next, Will Weigh Options After Season
... Humphries played 66 more minutes this season than he did a year ago, but his role never expanded past backing up freshman big man Bam Adebayo. He said he’s not sour about the role he’s been dealt, but rather how he’s performed in it. “I expected a different season,” Humphries said. “I expected completely to not go this way, but that happens. I’m just trying to push through everything I can and do as much as I can when I get out there.”. And that 180-degree difference between expectation and reality has the Australian contemplating his future at Kentucky. The former 4-star prospect has been overshadowed at UK and his path to playing time might not be clear next year with a slew of Mc Donald’s All-Americans entering the fray. Humphries said he’s staying positive and accepting his minutes as they ...
Kentucky Basketball Motivated By Trash Talk In Ncaa Tournament Win Over Wichita State
... we believed we were the better team," Marshall said. "Regardless of what whoever thinks, we thought we would and should win the game.". So confident were the tenth-seeded Shockers heading into Sunday's second round showdown that forward Darral Willis, Jr. said Bam Adebayo – fresh off an 18-rebound performance vs. Northern Kentucky – would get "shut down.". Adebayo's response: a second straight double-double (13 points, 10 boards) and the game-clinching block as the final buzzer sounded. "I just played basketball. There's nothing really to it," Adebayo said after UK's 65-62 win. "I don't do all that trash talking. I just go out there and do what my teammates need me to do and have a ball.". Through media reports, the Cats were made very much aware of Wichita State's boasting, and Derek Willis said the team took it personally. "I just kind of look at their team as like, they're the best little man," Willis said. "Does that make sense? Teams coming in, saying stuff like that, I really don't think – from our past history, it's never a good idea.". Willis referenced Kentucky's 78-39 win ...

UCLA avenged that defeat last season at Pauley Pavilion before beating the Wildcats a second consecutive time in December. Welsh suggested that matching Kentucky’s intensity shouldn’t be an issue, even though the Wildcats figure to play with an edge. “I think just knowing it’s March and knowing that we’re playing for a chance to play in the Elite Eight, I think that’s all you really need,” Welsh said. “We’re working as hard as we can to keep playing with our guys and we’re just really excited for the opportunity.”. Three Take-aways From Kentucky Basketball's Win Over Wichita State
... including the SEC Tournament. One of the game’s biggest (overlooked) plays came with just over four minutes remaining when Wichita State’s Zach Brown, who turned it over four times, made a careless pass out front. Fox made the steal and slammed it home at the other end for a 58-51 Kentucky lead with 4:09 remaining. 2. A smart John Calipari coaching move. After Malik Monk made two free throws with 10.6 seconds left, Kentucky coach John Calipari subbed in Dominique Hawkins for Derek Willis leaving the Cats with four guards (Hawkins, Monk, Fox and Briscoe) to go with Adebayo. The strategy worked as Fox took Wichita State’s Shamet coming up the floor. The freshman scored 20 points to lead the Shockers. He had just made a three-pointer with 55 seconds left to pull Wichita State within 63-62. ...

... and 15 points off the bench from freshman Rakym Felder to beat the Blue Devils. Now the Gamecocks will play No. 3 seed Baylor on Friday night in Madison Square Garden for a spot in the East final. The Gators held the Cavaliers to just 17 points in the first half as Tony Bennett’s team shot just 29.6 percent for the night. Meanwhile, Florida’s Devon Robinson continued his impressive run.
