Michigan State Women Shut Down By Arizona State In Ncaa Tournament
... couldn’t capitalize. The Spartans' offensive struggles persisted, particularly with retaining ball possession. In the first half, the Spartans committed 12 turnovers to the Sun Devils' five. “We were prepared for everything that they were going to run, so I feel like we followed through well, took away (Jankoska’s) space, hedged hard on ball screens," ASU coach Charli Turner Thorne said. “We really challenged them. We’ve got to pressure like we know how to pressure. We’ve got to lock down the top scorers… and we finally stepped up and did it.”. With back-to-back 3-pointers from Richardson and freshman guard Kiara Russell, the Sun Devils put together a 10-0 run and jumped out to a 42-20 halftime lead. Putting The Msu Basketball Season Into Perspective
... Well, that was … something. It’s no secret that basketball season wasn’t the standard for MSU hoops, but gang, some of us need to pump the brakes here. I’m right with everyone – this season was a tough one to watch at many times. But we also need to put it into perspective as we look back on a unique season in Michigan State’s history. First off, this program isn’t slipping away. I saw a few comparisons between MSU and the Detroit Red Wings in the sense that they’re barely keeping their postseason streak alive while steadily declining. Alright, fine. Let’s look at this. One of those teams is declining based on poor draft position, the inability to get key free agents and keeping aging players on the roster. That’s the Red Wings. The other just brought in a top five recruiting class, has another promising class on the way and only has a brighter future ahead of them. That team is (you guessed it) Michigan State. Three Takeaways: Spartans Season Ends In Second Round Loss to Kansas. Also, let’s not forget what happened to this team in the last ...

... to an Elite Eight run shouldn’t be surprising. Miami: Tremendously athletic but only occasionally dominant, Miami had a tendency to play to its level of competition. Wins against North Carolina and Duke show the Canes can beat anyone, but over the course of the season they were very much a middle-of-the-pack ACC team. Freshmen Bruce Brown and Dewan Huell are future pros, but the key to a run will be seniors Davon Reed and Kamari Murphy. Michigan State's Gavin Schilling Opens Up About What Might Have Been
... two years ago. MSU’s shooters were struggling to find space against Rick Pitino’s Cardinals. “So, Tom (Izzo) puts Schilling in the game specifically to get them open,” Garland said. “We made a little run.”. And got to the Final Four. MSU’s coaches are convinced that Schilling would have done similar things this season for Josh Langford and Cassius Winston and Matt Mc Quaid and even Miles Bridges. Setting screens is not easy for freshmen big men. Witness last week’s loss to Minnesota in the Big Ten tournament. Nick Ward, in particular, struggles to keep his feet set. Schilling can relate. He was a freshman trying to learn once, too. With Ward, Schilling said, he often doesn’t get low enough. That costs him leverage, making it harder to keep the feet set. Move them, and it’s an offensive foul. “Lots of things go ...
Versatility Sets Apart Michigan State Basketball Signee Xavier Tillman
... Coaches Association of Michigan backed up his status when it named him a Mr. Basketball finalist in February. He was joined by Detroit Cornerstone's Jamal Cain, Detroit East English Village's Greg Elliott, North Farmington's Amauri Hardy, Kalamazoo Central's Isaiah Livers and Powers North Central's Jason Whitens. "When I talked to the college coaches when they were recruiting him, that's what set him apart," Grand Rapids Christian coach Mark Warners said. "They watch a lot of high school kids play, and with him, they saw somebody who sees the floor like he does at his size, and that's a big thing for them to see. "He has the ability to handle the ball. He's not quite an 18-foot jump shooter, but a 15-foot jumper? He can catch that on the high post and stick that shot.". Tillman's versatility includes averages of 13.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.1 blocks for the Eagles (21-0) this season. He has posted several triple-doubles. The high ...
Michigan State Players Felt The Impact Of Quick, 'awesome' Field Trip While In D.c
... and had time while preparing to play Thursday to check out one of the toughest places to get into in this city. There has been a huge demand for timed-entry tickets to the museum, which opened in September. “We had told the coaches earlier that day that we really wanted to go. It could be a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” senior Alvin Ellis III said. “We heard the waiting list can be like six months, but we were able to get in there for that experience even for a little bit. “A lot of us just wanted to see all of the history, all the facts that we didn’t know anything about. We didn’t have enough time but it was a great, great experience.”. This is the first time the Big Ten has staged the conference tournament in Washington, an East Coast city far away from the traditional hosts Indianapolis and Chicago and the heart of Big Ten country. A quick field trip like this was enough to make Michigan State coach Tom Izzo a fan of the idea. “I wish I had more time,” Izzo said. “I did do something. I got my players in the African-American museum. That was only two hours. That was like the most awesome thing you ...
