... Cavaliers’ defense. Then the final 7:25 of the first half went about as poorly as UNCW could have hoped. Virginia closed the half on a 19-3 run to take a 30-29 lead into halftime. Marial Shayok scored nine for the Cavaliers during the run which would prove pivotal in the game. The Seahawks were able to keep things close to kick off the second half. Another Mosley three briefly gave UNCW a 45-44 lead. But another extended Virginia run put the game out of reach. A 10-0 run from the Cavaliers gave Virginia a nine-point lead. Against the nation’s top ranked defense, UNCW was not able to recover from that deficit and never led again. UNCW performed well against Virginia’s defense. The Commodores went ahead 66-65 on a Riley La Chance layup with 17 seconds remaining, but Matthew Fisher-Davis—either not realizing the score or falsely ...

... in the final, but certainly not one for the "One Shining Moment" video, either. "An honest mistake," Northwestern coach Chris Collins called it. "You feel bad for players. He was tremendous today. Certainly, I was surprised.". The sequence was set up after Riley La Chance made a layup with 17.8 seconds remaining to put the Commodores up by one. But seconds after the in-bounds pass, Fisher-Davis reached out and grabbed Mc Intosh around the waist while the Northwestern guard was dribbling up the backcourt. That put eighth-seeded Northwestern in the double bonus, and Mc Intosh went to the line and calmly swished the free throws with 14.6 seconds left for a 67-66 lead. "When he grabbed me, I had thought we were down one, and I'm thinking maybe I made a mistake," he said. "I had to put my mind on making the free throws at the end.". ... in the tournament outside of the Shockers meeting Gonzaga in the Final. MORE: Breaking down the incredibly tough South Region. This because the Wildcats measure out with the fourth-best Four Factors Score in the country and the Shockers, well, they’re No. 1 by a long shot. Kentucky stacks up pretty well thanks to strong offensive rankings across the board (they rarely turn the ball over) and serviceable defensive numbers. But with a Four Factors Score of 564, they sit over 10 percent lower than the Shockers. The Shockers blow everyone out of the water with a whopping 4 FS of 621 – over 35 points higher than any team in the country. This is due to a top-40 national ranking in each key offensive category, and top-10 rankings in Opponent effective FG% (which takes into account shooting) and DREB% (percent of available defensive rebounds grabbed). This not only tells us is how incredibly good Wichita State has been and how incredibly under-seeded they are. But also, how incredibly screwed they get once again ...
