Rewarding Moments In Redskins History
... college kid at Virginia Tech, with Kellen Winslow and Sean Taylor. He got that opportunity some years later for just a portion of the 2008 season, when he was cut by the Raiders and signed shortly after with the Redskins. He finished out that year with two interceptions and 25 tackles in just four starts, making a strong impression as he headed into free agency. That’s when, in late February, the Redskins scooped him up, alongside another large - in many ways - free agent, Albert Haynesworth, and signed the cornerback to a six-year contract. “You know, I got a chance after I left Oakland to come here for a couple of weeks and play football, and I had the best time of my life. I had the best time,” Hall said at his March press conference. “A lot of people might say that in Oakland I lost a step or I might not have it. “And all I’ve gotta say is wait. Wait and see. Wait and see. You know, that whole Oakland experience kinda opened my eyes to life in general. You ...

D.j. Swearinger Adds Physical Presence At Safety For Redskins
... more players with his versatility. They do have Su'a Cravens , who will play safety this season, though he also can play multiple linebacker spots in their sub packages (he prefers safety). Cravens, too, plays with a lot of energy, so a pairing of these two would provide youthful passion. The Redskins typically need their safeties to play both free and strong, and Swearinger showed last year he could do both. The Redskins also have veteran Will Blackmon , so they have three safeties capable of helping right now. While Cravens and Swearinger are more natural strong safeties, Blackmon is more of a free. What's the risk? There's not a lot of risk considering the Redskins needed more help at safety, whether just with depth or as a starter. Plus, teams are using more three-safety sets. But the risk would be if Swearinger hasn't moved past whatever issues he had earlier in his career. Or if he and Cravens don't become a good pairing because perhaps they're too similar. The Texans cut Swearinger after only two seasons - and he had been a starter. There were bigger-name ...
Intent Unclear As Redskins Contact Pierre Garcon, Desean Jackson
... discounted rate to stay by either player. Jackson has been looking forward to free agency for some time, even mentioning late in the season that he was excited about the prospect. The last time he was a free agent stemmed from him being released by Philadelphia later in the process. My colleague, Jeremy Fowler, tweeted that Jackson was looking for a deal in the $10 million to $12 million range. Early on, I had been told the rumored number was $11 million, so this makes sense. That doesn’t mean he’ll get that much, but it’s the number others have heard. Garcon and Jackson will have multiple suitors on the market and will, therefore, receive a big contract. Though both are 30, they remain productive, with each surpassing 1,000 yards last season. Jackson's speed is dangerous; Garcon's toughness and consistency appeals to teams. Tampa Bay has been a rumored destination for Jackson for a while, but it’s certainly not automatic. Baltimore, San Francisco and Tennessee likely are among those expected to pursue Garcon. Playing for the Ravens ...
Bargain Bin Free Agents Washington Redskins Should Target To Fill Biggest Needs
... three years. The 26-year-old has also taken on coverage responsibilities in underneath zones and spent time with his hand in the dirt. He has got genuine steal potential for a team running a hybrid 3-4 like the one Manusky will call in Washington. Simon's status on the market is summed up best by Gregg Rosenthal and Chris Wesseling of the league's official website: "An unflashy outside linebacker who can handle a variety of roles at a high level, Simon is one of our favorite bargain free agents.". This is an edge defender who won't get a starter's role in Houston while Jadeveon Clowney and the brilliant Whitney Mercilus are around. Yet Simon would work well alongside Kerrigan, Smith, Murphy and Galette to give Washington a deep arsenal of weapons for pressuring the pocket in 2017. Free agency is going to be a tricky process for the Redskins with general manager Scot Mc Cloughan's status still uncertain. Mc Cloughan remains absent from the team's facility as the veteran market prepares to open on Thursday, according to Liz Clarke and Mike Jones of the Washington Post. ...

Redskins Expected To Lose Desean Jackson After Heavy Early Interest
... England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys also have inquired about wide receiver De Sean Jackson, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it’s expected that the Redskins and Jackson will part ways, multiple people with knowledge of the situation have indicated. Should he land with the Bucs, Jackson would join an offense with quarterback Jameis Winston and Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans. Could Marquise Goodwin be Redskins’ new deep threat. The Redskins have expressed interest in wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. With Jackson’s departure imminent, Washington will be lacking a deep threat on its roster to open up the middle of the field for tight end Jordan Reed and wide receiver Jamison Crowder. The Redskins would gain that in Goodwin, a track and field athlete that qualified for the 2012 U. S. Olympic team in the long jump. Goodwin set a personal best in the 60-meter dash at 6.67 seconds last year during the U. S. indoor track and field championships. Goodwin, 26, has spent all four NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills and ...

Browns Scheming Winners, Redskins Look Like Lunatic Losers
... media market for a team without a ton of weapons and probably with a highly-drafted quarterback backing him up. It’s not a great situation for Cutler. San Diego Chargers : Russell Okung’s agent, who is actually Okung himself, did a heck of a job negotiating his last two contracts. The first deal with Denver looked like a loser because the Denver Broncos declined his option and sent him back onto the market after just one year, which was not a good year. The second deal looks freaking great, with Okung inking a monster deal with the Chargers and about to earn $23.5 million guaranteed on a five-year, $53 million deal. Unfortunately, a lot of people in the NFL believe Okung may have tampered in this situation by talking to the Chargers before he was allowed to negotiate (he couldn’t discuss ...
