Round 1 Scores, Updated Bracket And Round 2 Schedule
... LSU 52. Wade Payne/Associated Press. The SEC tournament started with a blowout, as Mississippi State extended its season with a commanding 79-52 victory over LSU. Quinndary Weatherspoon led the way with 19 points, while Tyson Carter added 18 points off the bench. Despite the scoring from Weatherspoon and Carter, Mississippi State's perimeter defense set the tone in the victory. The Tigers shot an abysmal 1-of-22 from three-point range and committed 19 turnovers. They never appeared comfortable against Mississippi State's ball-hounding. LSU did score eight of the game's first 10 points and held a 25-24 lead with less than five minutes until halftime. However, the Bulldogs finished the first half with a 13-0 run and never looked back. The Tigers pulled within single digits multiple times early in the second half, but the game was never in doubt in the final 10 minutes. Mississippi State will play No. 5 seed Alabama in Thursday's second round. Missouri 86, Auburn 83 (OT). There was much more drama in Wednesday's second game, as ...
Recent History Has Been Unkind To Arkansas At Sec Tournament
... jar you. That’s Arkansas basketball in the SEC Tournament over the past decade or so. The Razorbacks play their first game in the conference’s postseason bracket on Friday against either Missouri or Ole Miss. Arkansas, by virtue of finishing the regular season as the No. 3 seed, drew an automatic double bye into the quarterfinals. That’s the good news. The bad news is this. Did you know the Razorbacks are winless in every single SEC Tournament since 2009 except one? Arkansas has two total wins since that year. Both came in 2015 when the Bobby Portis-led Hogs made it to the conference title game, where they lost to Kentucky. That’s it, though. 2009 — Lost in first round. 2010 — Lost in first round. 2011 — Lost in first round. 2012 — Lost in first round. 2013 — Lost in second round (drew bye for first round). 2014 — Lost in second round (drew bye for first round). 2015 — Lost ...

A&m Ousted By Vanderbilt At Sec Tournament
... was extraordinary to start that second half,” Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew said. “I think when he started to make some 3 s, it just gave our team a lot of confidence and a lot more guys started to make shots.”. Now Vanderbilt will get a chance at another three-game sweep of No. 17 Florida in the quarterfinals on Friday night. Riley La Chance added 14 points for Vanderbilt, and Nolan Cressler had 11. Tenth-seeded Texas A&M (16-15) was held to a season low in points. Tyler Davis led the Aggies with 18 points, and Admon Gilder added 11. Coach Billy Kennedy said they were “outclassed” by Vanderbilt on the perimeter with the Commodores making almost as many 3 s (11) as his Aggies made field goals (17). “When you can’t score and you’re not deep with your depth defensively, it’s hard to grind out a win,” Kennedy said. This was the first time these teams have met in the tournament, not that the change of venue mattered as Vanderbilt improved to 8-2 all-time in this series. Both teams struggled to shoot in the first half. Texas A&M went through a scoring drought that lasted 10:18, turning it over eight times with one shot clock violation. Vanderbilt failed to take advantage, ...
Before Ending Ncaa Drought, Gamecocks Turn Attention To Snapping Sec Tournament Slump
... head coach Dave Odom’s back-to-back NIT champions made an unforeseen run to the final, and fell 49-47 to a Florida team that would go on to win the national crown. Since then USC has been ousted in the first round five times, including four straight years from 2010-13. Twice they’ve gone out in the second round. The last three years USC has reached the quarterfinals, but gone no further — most painfully last season, then the third-seeded Gamecocks received a double-bye, and still suffered an upset loss to Georgia that helped send them to the NIT. That team went to Nashville very much on the NCAA bubble, and in the midst of a late-season slide that left them on the outside looking in on Selection Sunday. The fourth-seeded Gamecocks (22-9) are in far better position this time around, with an RPI of 32 entering Friday’s 3:30 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 5 seed Alabama. “We approach Friday trying to win the SEC championship,” said senior guard Sindarius Thornwell, whom league coaches voted SEC Player of the Year. “We’re trying to win this game to win the SEC championship. That’s what's most important right ...
Lsu Lost To Mississippi State In The Sec Tournament 2017
... the first half. LSU was 0-for-13 in the second half. The good stat for LSU was that the Tigers made 15-of-18 for 83.3 percent. MSU hit 28-of-59 shots for 47.5 percent and 11 three pointers along with 12-of-13 from the free throw line. LSU outrebounded Mississippi State 35-34, but the Bulldogs had the advantage in the other specialty stats including 30-16 in points in the paint and for the third straight meeting, a big advantage in points off turnovers as LSU turned the ball over 19 times. That resulted in a 32-8 advantage for State. In the first four minutes of the second half, LSU twice closed the game to four points at 39-35 on free throws by Blakeney and 41-37 (16:34) on a Mays layup. But after a Peters three, LSU turned the ball over resulting in a three-point play by Weatherspoon pushed back to double digits. Brandon Sampson hit a jump shot ...

... at SEC Tournament. Head coach Bruce Pearl had a freshman-heavy lineup this season as Mustapha Heron, Jared Harper, Danjel Purifoy and Austin Wiley led the team with 32, 30, 25 and 22 starts, respectively. Guard Mustapha Heron (15 points, 14 rebounds). "You have to give Missouri credit. They're a good team and they made a lot more plays than us down the stretch. I didn't think I made the proper plays down the stretch that my team needed me to make in order for us to win the game. "It's a learning experience. It's a tough one, it's the worst kind to go through, but a learning experience at the end of the day. We have to be ready to come back harder.". Gamecocks Want To Add One More Reference To Their Resume
... coach Frank Martin said. “We’ve got to make sure our guys are in a good place mentally to go at these games, because they’re all so hard in this league.”. The resume that was dissected last year seems to be safely preserved in cold storage this year. The Gamecocks are 22-9, 12-6 SEC and finished fourth in the league. They beat one of the top two teams in the league. Their RPI is 32 with a strength-of-schedule rated 37, far above last year’s totals. By Thursday’s numbers, USC was 4-5 against the Top 50 in RPI and 12-8 against the Top 100. It beat Monmouth, Michigan, Syracuse and Vermont and topped Georgia and Tennessee on the road. Bracketology considers the Gamecocks a lock, maybe as high as a 6 seed. That couldn’t change in the span of two days, right. Yes, it can. Unlikely, impossible. it can. So the Gamecocks are thinking of Friday and trying to get to Saturday, then trying to get to Sunday. Then, they’ll gather in Nashville or Columbia to watch the selection broadcast. Sunday’s coming. After Friday. “All of this is good, but the main focus is winning and advancing,” Thornwell said. “Only important thing that ...

... digits within three minutes and leading by more than 10 points for the final 13-plus minutes. Texas A&M shot just 33.3 percent as a team and got zero points from its bench. Tyler Davis had 18 points and eight rebounds, but he was the only Aggies starter with an above-average performance. Vanderbilt knocked down 11 three-pointers, nine of which were by Toye or La Chance. Nolan Cressler added 11 points to round out scoring for the Commodores. Ole Miss 86, Missouri 74. Deandre Burnett scored 23 points off the bench and Terence Davis added 19, as Ole Miss advanced with an 86-74 win over Missouri. The Rebels went to the line 47 times, compared to just 13 for Ole Miss. The difference in fouls and free throws were enough to make all the difference in a game that was otherwise evenly played from a percentage standpoint. Missouri actually shot a slightly better percentage (42.6) than Ole Miss (41.8) and knocked down 12 threes compared to the Rebels' nine. Kevin Puryear, Jordan Barnett and Terrence Phillips all scored 15 points for the Tigers. Three of their five starters fouled out, and ...
