... in which Casey evades capture at every turn, whether from the most inept torturer in movie history or endless policemen who somehow fail to guard the back door of the bar they’ve surrounded. The vehicular mayhem is generally well-staged, and the film moves along at a brisk pace during its fat-free, 99-minute running time. But Hoult and Jones are unable to breathe much life into their bland characters, and it’s ultimately sad to watch the former Hannibal Lecter and Gandhi reduced to playing silly, tough-guy caricatures. ... in Stalin’s Kremlin, millions died of starvation. High concept, uninspired execution plagues 'Rock Dog'. Katie Walsh. The animated feature “Rock Dog” arrives one week after the release of another prominent Chinese-American co-production, the fantasy adventure “The Great Wall.” Director Ash Brannon brings Pixar and Sony bona fides (he co-directed “Toy Story 2” and directed “Surf’s Up”) to this adaptation of rocker. Horror-thriller 'Drifter' is a semi-successful exercise in genre homage. Noel Murray. Quentin Tarantino and Brian De Palma proved that there’s nothing wrong with filmmakers wearing influences on their sleeves, provided they also bring their own personality and gusto. Writer-director Chris von Hoffman’s debut feature, “Drifter,” hits its target about half the time. Sometimes it’s. Beaten and battered bride-to-be persists in indie drama 'Erasing Eden'. Katie Walsh. It’s a flippant comparison to say that “Erasing Eden,” written and directed by Beth Dewey, combines themes from ...

... and gory ride. See it: Like the best of the genre, biting satire of our world underscores thrills and chills. "Collide" — Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Anthony Hopkins, directed by Eran Creevy. To save his girlfriend's life, Casey (Hoult) must acquiesce to drug runners' demands and embark on a high-speed escape across the Autobahn highway. "Collide" has been stuck in release limbo after the collapse of Relativity Media, and its years on the shelf don't seem to have done the film any favors. But it does boast the always epic Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley. Skip it: This looks like a reproduction of better, cheeky, action-genre fare already out there. Quick Cuts. "My Life as a Zucchini" (Limited Release) — Will Forte, Nick Offerman, Ellen Page, directed by Claude Barras. ... Christian in front of the Taj Mahal and, most amazingly, a "Chronicles of Riddick" poster. It hangs in the background of a pivotal scene and the questions linger long afterward. Is the key to Christian that he's a huge Vin Diesel fan? Was it a passing fancy or was Christian — this globe-trotting sexual enigma — equally enthusiastic for subsequent installments of "Riddick"? Alas, we will never truly unlock the mysteries of Grey. "Fifty Shades Darker," which has maintained its lilywhite palate despite its title, takes up the action three weeks after the previous film left off. Christian, seeking to make amends after their split, comes calling for Ana, promising he's ready for a more "vanilla" relationship after the violence of his desires frightened Ana away. "I want to renegotiate terms," is how he puts it, definitely speaking like a recognizable human being. The pair quickly gets back into the swing of things. They shower. They ride elevators. They shower again. The sex scenes are a little steamier and the sculpted bodies ...

... famous murals of the Ford River Rouge plant to Ed Ruscha’s photo catalogue of gas stations along Route 66 and beyond. That tradition is alive and well at Susan Eley Fine Art on New York City’s Upper West Side, where the recent exhibition Vroom Vroom Beep Beep has showcased contemporary artists’ often incidental intersection with the culture of cars. “I don’t even have a license,” says artist John Conn, whose photographs of vintage American metal in Cuba line the brick walls of the warm upstairs gallery space. “In Havana especially they play up the old ‘50 s cars for the tourists, but outside of that image there’s a real function and necessity. That’s a source of pride for some of these unbelievable mechanics, who can’t afford to lose what they’ve got.”. That artists like Conn have only a passing interest in cars yet identify something meaningful in them is indicative of how deeply tied up with our culture the subject has become. For graphic artist Charles Buckley , it’s old cars that grab his attention with their more distinctive ...

... and Joao Moutinho. Moreover, any slip was magnified, as was always likely to be the case, with Porto only facing real challenges in the four "classicos" against Benfica and Sporting CP, plus whichever European competition they faced. Being linked so closely with Lopetegui, his former goalkeeping coach for the national team, didn't help as the coach's star began to wane. Casillas' costly mistake against Dynamo Kiev in November 2015, setting up a Champions League choke, paved the way for the end of Lopetegui's reign. Unlike Buffon, Casillas has not shied away from responding to the brickbats on social media, most recently when Catalan newspaper El Mundo Deportivo mocked him for erring in the victory over Rio Ave, openly wondering where they'd been for the last five months (via O Jogo , in Portuguese). That is perhaps a necessity rather than a choice, with his marriage to reporter Sara Carbonero making stoic silence less of an option. Still, he, too, has ...
