... due to a decline in fees generated by stocks and metals trading on the bourse as it struggled to match stellar volumes seen during 2015's record rally. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEX) (0388. HK) reported a net profit of HK$5.8 billion ($747.36 million) for 2016, slightly below analysts' average estimate of HK$6 billion, according to Thomson Reuters data. "The global financial markets were volatile and overshadowed by political and economic uncertainties. At home, there were concerns that mainland China’s economy was slowing down and that interest rates would rise. All these contributed to cautious sentiment among investors and created a challenging market environment for the Group," HKEX said in a statement. Average daily trading on the bourse in 2016 fell 37 percent to HK$70 billion compared with the previous year. Group profits were also dented by the bourse's London Metal Exchange subsidiary, which saw trading volumes fall 8 percent year-on- year due to subdued metals demand causing commodities-related revenues to decline 10 percent to HK$1.6 billion. ... is just starting. The commercial vessel pipeline includes several larger ferries which will maintain revenue in the Philippines beyond the economic breakeven point if contracted. Importantly following the management and organisational improvements implemented at the beginning of the year, construction of the vessels is currently performing well and within schedule. We continue to believe that the yard provides the basis to protect our market in fast ferries and now that the sales pipeline is improving we anticipate the profitability of the yard to make a significant contribution to the group in future years. Austal took an opportunity to settle a long standing arbitration matter after the end of the financial half year. The arbitration related to a latent defect in a commercial vessel delivered to a European customer seven years ago. The settlement avoids the risk of an adverse arbitration outcome and the cost of continuing complex arbitration in the United Kingdom and was judged to be a prudent outcome for the business. Austal had previously fully provided for the actual repair costs associated with the claim but not for a settlement. This settlement was negotiated ...

Tesla Stock Slides More Than 5% As Goldman Downgrades It To Sell

... on the Nasdaq-100 on Monday. NDX, +0.08%. Goldman is expecting the launch of the Model 3 to be delayed and expects Tesla shares to be pressured through the year by an accelerating free cash flow burn rate. The company is expected to raise capital again before the fourth quarter, after Chief Executive Elon Musk acknowledged the potential need on the company’s latest quarterly earnings call. “We see room for shares to de-rate as the Model 3 production launch likely disappoints and as an unproven Solar City business model likely weighs on the company’s focus/results,” said Tamberrino. The acquisition of Solar City has come at a time when Goldman believes Tesla should be firmly focused on becoming a mass car manufacturer. The deal has limited synergies and it is in the midst of a business model transition from company-owned equipment installation and leasing contracts to customer purchased equipment on cash and loan sales. “Ultimately, the acquisition raised the net leverage of Tesla while ...

... November. First Solar scrapped plans to introduce a new panel design this year, the Series 5, while firing. 1,600 workers and retooling its factories to produce the Series 6 starting in mid-2018. The move came as a global oversupply helped drag panel prices down 35 percent last year industrywide, and the company’s sales plunged 49 percent in the quarter. “When you see module price dropping as rapidly as we did going back to July you have to make adjustments,” Chief Executive Officer Mark Widmar said on a conference call Tuesday. “We have seen prices start to stabilize.” He was promoted in July from chief financial officer and immediately began reviewing First Solar’s strategy. Without the Series 5 panel, the company is relying on its aging Series 4 design, which is less competitive compared to rivals’ products. Sales plunged in the fourth quarter to $480.4 million from $942.3 million a year earlier. The shares were downgraded Wednesday to the equivalent of sell from ...

Trump Slides, Cuomo Rises In New Poll Of New Yorkers

... The Siena College Research Institute said 68 percent of poll respondents in blue state New York believe Trump is doing a bad job as president, and 59 percent view him as personally unfavorable. The attitudes toward the president stretch across various demographic groups along income, age and religious backgrounds. Younger voters, or those younger than 34, give Trump the least favorable job ranking among three different age breakdowns. Sixty-two percent of whites give him a negative job performance rating; among blacks, that negative view was given by 96 percent of respondents. Beyond job performance, when asked how they view him personally, only 36 percent said they do so favorably. In contrast, 71 percent of Republicans view Trump favorably, though that is down 6 points from a January Siena poll. When Democrats were asked the same question, just 15 percent gave him a favorable review. Fifty-three percent of voters who identified themselves as independents said they had a negative view of Trump when the poll was taken between Feb. 19-23. The poll of 723 registered ...
