The Man Of Bronze
The Man Of Bronze

... right for it. Directed by Michael Anderson, who also helmed Logan’s Run and Around the World in 80 Days, and produced by the great George Pal, it remains a charming movie despite its failure at the box office. A predecessor to both Buckaroo Banzai and Austin Powers, Doc Savage attempts to be campy at times yet fairly straight at others. The various side characters and oddball dialogue exchanges, mixed together with a very simplistic adventure plot, make it a fun piece of material nonetheless. It’s akin to the Batman TV show from the 1960 s, in that many of the kids who saw it likely didn’t pick up on the camp until later in life. There are definitely things here that don’t work, including the special effects, most of the performances, and some of the set pieces, but it’s still an enticing movie. Members Of The Zulu Nation Told Alleged Sexual Abuse Victim To Recant His Accusations Against Afrika Bambaataa

... And I still protected him.". Bentson, currently on the road with Ice-T for the rapper's touring "Art of Rap" festival, repeatedly accuses Savage of trying to harm the Zulu Nation in the recording. "I'm 57 years old, man," Bentson says. "Bam is 60 years old, man. Y'all are tearing us apart with the bullshit. If this was something that was on your mind, this shit should have been out 20 years ago, 25 years ago. Why are we hurting the brand that we have, man? This is a brand, B.". During the phone conversation, Bentson also accuses Savage of going public so he can sell more books to make money. Savage retorts: "See Mick, now you disrespecting me. This shit ain't about money. I don't give a fuck about that.". "Y'all know what happened, so stop covering for him," Savage continues. "That's the thing that makes me mad.". In a separate call with a man Savage identifies as Saladeen Walker, a longtime Zulu member who works for the organization's security team, Savage is similarly pressured to drop the allegations. "I felt threatened."—Ronald Savage. "Bee-Stinger, do me a favor, man: write a retraction," the man says on the recording. "[You were] ...

... in the estimation of the community while deterring others from associating or dealing with him,” she said, referring to Savage’s book. “The statements show a reckless disregard for the truth, were published with knowledge of their falsity, and are being made by a lesser-known person seeking publicity.”. Chuck Freeze of the Jazzy Five, who recorded and performed with Bambaataa and was friendly with Savage when the abuse allegedly took place, says Savage is no liar. “Ronald was the kind of guy you could trust,” says Freeze, whose real name is Charles Foushee. “You could leave money on the table and know it would be there when you got back. A really good dude. Easy to talk to. Very intelligent. “We had no idea about this — and we would not have tolerated it if we did. Do I believe it? Yes, I do.”. Zulu Nation “minister of information” Quadeer Shakur, who declined comment for this story, threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against ...

... me up, man," Savage said. "The question that always bothered me was, Why me? That's what I've always wanted to ask [Bambaataa]. It damaged me.". "Bam was like your uncle who paid your way through college, but molested you."—Hassan Campbell. Like Savage, Hassan "Poppy" Campbell, 39, grew up in a dysfunctional home and was surrounded by poverty and drug and alcohol addiction. He described life in the hardscrabble Bronx River Houses by saying: "One day you're at a party; the next day you're getting shot at, or you're on welfare." Campbell, who is a decade younger than Savage, was also drawn to Bambaataa. In the late 80 s, when he was just 12 or 13, Campbell began hanging out with the Zulus and, like Savage, immersed himself in the burgeoning b-boy culture. Campbell lived in the Bronx River Houses with his mother and five siblings. His ...

Why This Year's Trade Deadline Could Be A Dud
Why This Year's Trade Deadline Could Be A Dud

... players such as James Reimer, Kris Versteeg, Jiri Hudler and Justin Schultz. It's not unusual for players to be moved well before deadline day. But in a season where there's a shortage of noteworthy trade bait, this year's deadline could be devoid of significant moves. That will be a nightmare for the sports networks covering deadline day. Viewers could face hours of tedium as TV pundits try to play up the merits of the available lesser lights in the trade market. This year's market is particularly thin, in part because of a notable lack of quality pending free agents usually pursued by playoff clubs as rental players. Parity in the postseason race and concerns over protecting players in the June expansion draft also adversely affects the trade pool. St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk remains this season's top potential rental player. Given the trend of the last two years, he could be ...

... needed any help I’m always there,” said the third baseman. He wants to continue playing after he graduates and said Savage has helped him be ready for what college baseball will be like. Savage has been head coach at Tahquitz for the past 10 years and said from August through January the players are on the field five days a week and in the weight room three days a week. Savage said Clayton’s even temperament and his work ethic caught his attention. “In baseball, we talk about staying off an emotional roller coaster and not letting your highs get too high or your lows get too low. In the three years I have coached him … Clayton has maintained that composure,” Savage said. “Work ethic wise, he really cares about doing things the right way.”. Clayton, it seems, has been listening. “Baseball is my favorite ...
