Search For Tara Grinstead Resumes

Ricketson, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Perry, said that about a week and a half ago, someone contacted the office and provided information, and enough of that information was corroborated. A search warrant was secured for officials to search a small pond located on the north side of Fitzgerald, off Satilla Street. Ricketson said they reached out to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and used a mini-sub with a sonar unit to search the pond early Monday morning. Some divers with the Georgia State Patrol dive team also assisted in the search. The water was murky, providing zero visibility, so Ricketson said they secured a second search warrant to drain the pond, which was done throughout Monday night. After the pond was drained, a crime scene specialist scanned it, and officers with the Ocilla Police Department and Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office helped walk over it. It’s been eleven years since one of America’s “ most haunting unsolved mysteries ” gripped the nation. Authorities are baffled. Her car, a white Mitsubishi, was left unlocked in the drive way, and despite police finding a number of significant clues in Ms Grinstead’s home, nothing ever came of them. A latex glove, with a “male-profiled” DNA and a fingerprint were found in the yard near the front door, yet forensics were never able to match the DNA to anyone connected to the case. Two hundred men were tested, and not one match. Ms Grinstead’s phone was found charging in the bedroom, begging the question, why would she leave it there. The clothes she had worn to the cookout were found inside. But her purse and keys were missing. The only sign of a struggle was a broken bedroom lamp. Ocilla Teacher Tara Grinstead Still Missing A Decade Later

Police, firefighters, emergency management officials, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and volunteers began looking for her soon after.
